Micro-needling is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of various skin conditions such as, light scarring from acne, enlarged or dilated pores, stretch marks and overall rejuvenation of the skin. The procedure itself is done with a micro-needling device which glides over the top of the skin creating hundreds of tiny micro channels. By creating this controlled injury to the skin we trigger the body’s natural healing response which
results in the stimulation of new collagen and elastin fibres.
PRE-TREATMENT CONSIDERATIONS
If you are using Retinol or Vitamin A based products it would best to stop using them 2 to 4 days prior to your treatment.
If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores please take medication on the day of the procedure according to the prescribed dosage as this treatment could contribute to a recurrence. Please inform our office in advance if you do not
already have medication at home.
HOW THE TREATMENT IS PERFORMED
The treatment begins with an application of topical numbing cream to the area that is being treated. This will remain on the skin for 30 to 40 minutes, after which time the skin will be cleansed and prepared for the procedure. Your treatment will typically last 45 minutes. During the procedure you may feel some pressure points but it should not be painful. Once the needling is complete you may feel a tight warm, itchy sensation, which is normal. The last step is a soothing, cold collagen mask which is applied to the area and left on for about 10 minutes and then removed. Your technician will apply a regenerating cream, SPF and go over the post care procedures with you.
POST CARE CONSIDERATIONS
Following the procedure you will experience some facial redness, and tightness similar to what sunburn would feel like. For the first 24 hours it would be best to avoid strenuous work outs, hot tubs and swimming in a chlorinated pool. For the first 3 to 4 days cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser and then apply the Regenerating cream which will be given to you. You may also experience some minor flaking or drying of the skin, simply apply the Regenerating cream as needed. It would also best not to apply any medicated skin care products such as retinol for 7 days after the procedure. Although healing times may vary, most people enjoy the beautiful glow to their skin by day 7 after the treatment.
