PRP & PRF for skin rejuvenation and repair

The experienced dermatologists and staff at Kingsway Dermatology & Cosmetic Centre are dedicated to providing you with the most effective and innovative cosmetic and medical dermatology services available, so you can achieve all your aesthetic and skin care goals.

Our cutting-edge cosmetic dermatology treatments include PRP and PRF: which are both natural treatments that soften lines, improve skin quality, reduce inflammation, and improve cellular regeneration. PRP is also a primary treatment that promotes hair retention and growth for those that are experiencing significant hair fallout, while PRF helps growth last for even longer.

But what are they, and how do they work?

What is PRP?

PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. For this treatment, the platelets, which are blood cells that promote the healing of wounds, are extracted from your own cells. A small amount of blood is withdrawn, and then the platelets in the blood are isolated using a centrifuge to extract them. Then, these platelets are injected back into the treatment areas.

These platelets release growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen and new tissue, so this therapy is also used to promote wound healing. As a cosmetic treatment, your body will respond naturally to these cells, and you will see improvement in your skin’s tone and texture.

What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin Treatment?

Just as PRP helps to reduce inflammation and regenerate tissues on a cellular level, PRF works with a similar mechanism. The main difference is that PRF contains protein fibrin. Once injected into the treatment area, thrombin forms a clot, almost like a mesh net, that keeps PRP trapped in the injection site location so that the necessary growth factors remain in place for a longer period of time. This allows for PRF treatment to continue to release growth factors, improving cellular regeneration, for approximately four weeks. PRF also includes a higher concentration of white blood cells, fibrin, and a small amount of stem cells that remain in the bloodstream for further healing.

How PRP Is Used

PLATELET RICH FIBRIN

Adding fibrin allows the PRP to form a clot naturally without addition of any chemicals and without red and white blood cells that normally present in a blood clot that are pro-inflammatory. Benefits include:

  • Long lasting growth factor stimulation – ie more stimulation of collagen synthesis and repair as the growth factors will be released slowly from the fibrin clot
  • Provides a ‘scaffolding’ : this is a 3-dimensional structure around which new collagen fibres will be layered down (like putting bricks up on the frame of a house)

REGENERATING COLLAGEN BOOSTER

Drench your skin in nutrients and growth factors with Kingsway’s signature transdermal application of your own blood platelets AND non-cross linked hyaluronic acid placed directly into the middle layer of the epidermis called the mesoderm. This megawatt treatment is optimal for hydration, healing, collagen induction, tissue repair and tightening.

PRP with MICRONEEDLING

Supercharge collagen inducing microneedling by adding PRP to boost collagen and help reduce inflammation in the skin.
